Soloist Christian Portanier

The “Les Garrigues” choir loves cultural exchanges and new encounters; their concerts regularly take the audience on a journey through different eras and regions. This Saturday, the choir members transported their audience to Russia.Their guests—Christian Portanier-Loubaiev, a professional bass singer, and accordionist Vassili Tcheretski—charmed an audience completely transported to another world with their lively and expressive performances. The audience was warmly guided on this journey by Michel Bourelly, the narrator.

The costumes, designed by Flora, gave the singers from Languedoc a beautiful Slavic air; they had worked hard to memorize lyrics in a language that was completely unfamiliar to them. The musical performance was of impressive quality and surprised, captivated, and thrilled the audience, who applauded enthusiastically to express their delight. This stunning concert was the first in a series, as the public will have further opportunities to enjoy these liturgical, traditional, and folk songs from the East at other venues.
