The Garrigues Choir in Croatia

For its twenty-fourth summer trip, the Les Garrigues choir set its sights on Croatia. From July 9 to 14, the singers from Languedoc discovered a country with many charms. Vjekoslav Dulic, a member of Les Garrigues and a native of Croatia, had organized the trip with two choirs from his home country. The first few days were devoted to exploring the mountainous region of Ravna-Gora, home to the “Gimpl” choir, which organizes an international summer festival to which Les Garrigues had been invited. A walk in the forest, a very convivial evening at the very welcoming Hotel Breza, shared musical performances with the “Gimpl” choir and the Pula choir, which took charge of organizing the rest of the stay. And so, in Pula, a Roman city on the shores of the warm sea, our choir members, after crossing Istria, discovered a completely different side of Croatia. An excursion to Rovinj for the accompanying friends, a day on the idyllic island of Saint Jerolim, a tasting of calamari paired with Malvasia, the famous Istrian white wine, and, of course, another joint concert with the Ravna-Gora choir and “Rondo Histriae” from Pula. On the way back, we stopped in Vicenza, and in the evening, a final picnic provided an opportunity to honor the key organizers of the trip and to celebrate several choir members for 20 years or more of participation in the trips. The choir, which is recruiting members for all sections, will resume its activities at the community center in Saint Bauzille de Montmel on Friday September 2 at 6:30 p.m. and is already preparing to welcome these two prestigious Croatian choirs from April 27 through May 2.
